Help with Funding College

This is an article taken from this web page. Go to this web page for the direct link needed to get connected.

MTV, Get Schooled and the College Board have launched “My College Dollars,” a Facebook application that utilizes information from a user’s Facebook profile – including age, gender and state – to connect students with targeted financial aid opportunities.

The My College Dollars Facebook App integrates the media and messengers that students turn to most for information. It takes advantage of the world’s largest social media platform to meet students where they already spend a lot of time. The app helps them connect with information, guidance and tools that will enable them to make smart decisions about paying for college. The tool is integrated into a larger campaign to encourage college preparation and FAFSA completion, taking place within hundreds of high schools across the country.

To promote the use of My College Dollars, music artists, actors and athletes will inspire students and inform them about the campaign.

My College Dollars:
  • Connects students with the nearly $6 billion in available scholarship aid and $45 billion in federal and state grants.
  • Uses information from a user’s Facebook profile to connect him or her to relevant financial aid opportunities.
  • Features video tutorials from talent and other influential experts on how to get the financial aid students need.
  • Connects to existing social networks for support, guidance and sharing and tracking each other’s progress.
  • Integrates a calendar to help students track important dates and milestones.
  • Features a dynamic “Ask the Experts” FAQ, in which selected user questions will be answered by a panel of experts on a regular basis.

Financial Aid Night: MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

The following is an email I received from the director of financial aid at the College of St. Benedict:

Hello, high school counselors-

I write to invite your students to this year’s financial aid night at the College of Saint Benedict.

My goal is to inform your seniors and their parents about the financial aid application process and the types of financial aid that may be available to them.   As you will recall, this is a general financial aid presentation – not a Saint Ben’s/Saint John’s program.  The event is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Monday, January 14, 2013 and will take place on the CSB campus in Gorecki Center.

If you are interested in having seniors and their parents from your high school invited, please send labels with the students’ home address to Kari Schroeder, CSB financial aid office coordinator, at the following address:  College of Saint Benedict, Financial Aid Office, 37 South College Avenue, St. Joseph, MN  56374.

Thank you, and let me know if you have any questions.

Stuart Perry

Executive Director of Financial Aid
College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University

So....make sure you mark this date on your calendar and are keeping your eyes open for a letter from the College of St. Benedict in your mail sometime in December.

Also, there are four scholarships listed on the right side of this web site under "Scholarships" - make sure you are checking this web site periodically for updated scholarships.

Senior Meeting

With the first week come and gone, semester 1 schedule changes are out of the way and now it is time to focus on the seniors!

Today I am meeting with the entire senior class to discuss their senior year.  They will receive a copy of their transcript, the same transcript any college they apply to will receive.  This gives them an opportunity to see the same information as the college and to address any concerns they may have about their transcript.  I will talk with them about applying to colleges, taking appropriate college prep tests, visiting a college, financial aid, scholarships, etc.  It's an excellent time for them to ask questions and set up meeting times with me.

They will be given a packet of information, so if you are a parent of a senior, ask to see this packet and discuss the meeting with them.  It's important to continue to stay on track with the senior year and you as parents can assist with that.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me!
