There will be financial aid representatives here during this event that will help
you complete the FAFSA (free application for federal student aid).
The FAFSA is required if you are hoping to receive grants or loans from a college.
Please fill out this form 3 days before the event and bring your 2020 income tax
information. Please bring a laptop or your child's chromebook.
Also, there are two videos at the bottom of this post that will help you in the
process of getting ready for this event and for completing the FAFSA.

Today's recorded topic is on how to apply to a college.
One thing I did not cover is how you can find a college's application. The best thing to do is to google the name of the college and application. So for instance, I would google "Grand Canyon University Application" and a link to the application should appear in your search results.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Today I held the senior meetings every hour. While I understand that being there in person is more ideal, here is a recorded version so if you student missed the meeting they are able to watch and learn from the video.
Please do two things before starting the video:
1) Go to StudentVue -> Course History -> Unofficial Transcript (top middle blue bar on the page)
2) Go to your email and find the email from me that I sent today sharing a google folder called "Senior Information". In that folder there is a PDF of the powerpoint presentation called "2022 Senior Presentation"
Having these things will make it easier to follow along.

Below is the first video that I have created with the intentions to help seniors and parents with the college and graduation process. Hopefully breaking all of the information I share with seniors at their meeting (which is tomorrow!) will be helpful. As always, reach out with any questions.

It is great to be back and starting the 2nd week of school. It's now a routine and like we never even left!
Juniors and Seniors: If you are taking college level courses, please be sure that you are checking your MState eservices to ensure you are registered to receive the college credits from the college. Instructions were emailed to you and your parent last week. This information, if incorrect, is due to me tomorrow.
Starting this week and next week, I will be meeting in small groups with the seniors to go over college and senior information. I will also send out a short video clip every couple of weeks (and include it on my blog) about things I talk with the seniors about that parents may find helpful, too.
Have a great week and contact me with any questions.

All paperwork and a copy of the recording from today's registration information sessions was emailed to all parents and grades 8-11 students.
Please check your email if you need the information because you are a distance learner or you were absent today. If you are a parent and did not receive the email, please ask your student to see their email. If you still cannot locate the email, feel free to email me with your student's grade for next year and I will send you a copy of the email (firstname.lastname@example.org).

On Monday I will be having information sessions during school hours for all 8-11th graders to talk about registration and course selection for the 2021-2022 school year.
I sent an email to all parents and students yesterday explaining how the process will work. After the sessions are complete I will email a recording of the information sessions along with all paperwork. I will also post that information on this blog.
Course selection is due by 8am on Friday, April 23. Students must enter their requests into StudentVue.
As always, please contact me with any questions regarding registration!

This is just a friendly reminder that most of the local (scholarships just for Melrose HS seniors) are due by March 24, 2021 to Audrey. Please take some time to look over the guidelines and applications (on the right side of this website).
We are so lucky that so many local businesses and organizations are offering these financial opportunities to our seniors year after year. Last year these businesses and organizations gave away around $30,000 to seniors!
Contact me if you have any questions!

This week 8-11th graders will be completing a survey letting us know what electives they would like us to offer next year. This is not registration but rather is an opportunity for students to have a say in what classes we offer next year. After the information from the survey is collected and analyzed, administration creates a "master" schedule - this is an hour by hour list of classes we will offer. As you can imagine, the process of completing the master schedule takes some time! After this is all completed, official registration for the 2021-2022 school year typically takes place around the end of April. During that time students attend an information session during school time where I discuss numerous things (honors credits, college credits, graduation requirements, etc) and then students are given time to start choosing classes. These information sessions are recorded and posted for parents to review, too. Students are given about a week to complete the registration.
With that information in mind, keep a watch out for emails and blog posts announcing the start of registration this spring. In the meantime, the 2021-2022 Registration Guide is always available under "Useful Websites and Forms" on the right side of my blog so that you can review the different classes that we may offer to better assist your student when their time to select courses occurs.
If you have questions, just let me know!
